Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about CleanStreak.

Clear answers about how the extension blocks sites, records your progress, and keeps your data on your device.

What does CleanStreak block?

CleanStreak ships with 80+ adult-site domains and also checks page addresses for configurable keywords. You can add your own domains from the dashboard's settings.

Does CleanStreak collect or upload my browsing history?

No. CleanStreak does not require an account, use analytics, or send browsing data to a server. Your streak, stats, history, and settings are stored in your browser's extension storage. See the privacy page for details.

What happens when I open a blocked site?

A confirmation screen shows your current streak and starts a 10-second countdown. You can go back immediately, or choose to proceed once the countdown finishes. Proceeding records the attempt and resets the clean-day streak.

What is the one-hour cooldown?

After you confirm a visit for a domain, CleanStreak gives that domain a one-hour cooldown. You will not see another confirmation prompt for that domain during the cooldown, while other blocked domains continue to be handled normally.

How is my streak calculated?

A clean-day streak counts consecutive calendar days without proceeding to a blocked site. The streak is updated when you use the extension and resets when a blocked visit is confirmed.

Does it work in Incognito or Private Windows?

Yes, but browsers require you to grant this permission separately. After installation, open the extension's details page and enable Allow in Incognito in Chrome-family browsers or Run in Private Windows in Firefox.

Can I install it without a browser extension store?

Yes. CleanStreak is distributed as a free, open-source download. Use Load unpacked in Chrome, Edge, or Brave, or Load Temporary Add-on in Firefox. Follow the installation guide for the exact steps.

Why isn't CleanStreak in the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons yet?

CleanStreak is currently distributed directly while the store submissions are being prepared. The Chrome Web Store requires a one-time developer registration fee before publishing. Firefox Add-ons does not require that same fee, but Mozilla still needs to review and sign the package before it can be listed. Until those submissions are complete, use the installation guide and the official downloads on this site. The website will link to the store listings as soon as they are available.

Why does Firefox remove the extension after I restart?

Firefox treats locally loaded add-ons as temporary. You can reload manifest.json after restarting, or package and sign the extension through Mozilla's developer tools to install it permanently.

Does CleanStreak work on phones?

CleanStreak is currently a desktop browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox. Mobile browsers generally do not support the extension APIs it uses.

How do I remove my data?

Use the reset or clear-history controls in the extension dashboard. Removing the extension also removes its browser storage in most browsers. You can check your browser's extension settings if you want to confirm the data has been cleared.
